Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground Beef (80/20 lean)
  • 1 pkg Slider Buns (12 count, like King's Hawaiian)
  • 6 slices American Cheese
  • 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp French Dressing
  • 1 tbsp Sweet Pickle Relish
  • 1 tsp White Vinegar
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Finely Minced White Onion
  • 1 cup Shredded Lettuce
  • 12 slices Dill Pickle Chips
  • 2 tbsp Melted Butter
  • 1 tsp Sesame Seeds

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • 9x13 Baking Dish
  • Pastry Brush

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, French dressing, relish, vinegar, and sugar to make the 'Special Sauce'. Set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain the grease well. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Slice the entire pack of slider buns in half horizontally. Place the bottom half in a baking dish. Spread a layer of the special sauce over the bottom buns.
  4. Layer the cooked ground beef over the sauce, followed by the minced onions, pickle chips, and American cheese slices.
  5. Place the top bun half over the cheese. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 10 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 5 minutes until cheese is melted and tops are golden. Slide the top off briefly to add shredded lettuce before serving, if desired warm.

Notes

To get that authentic flavor, use dehydrated onions rehydrated in a little water, or very finely minced white onion. Don't skip the sesame seeds on top!
